North Atmos twintip review: Atmos vs Atmos Pro vs Atmos Ultra, and which size for your weight

North Atmos TT Board 2026

Short answer: the North Atmos is the board most North riders end up on: a big-air and freeride twintip that North rates 4/5 for pop, edge grip, carving and comfort in chop. It comes in three builds that share one shape and one size chart. The Hybrid Carbon Atmos is the one to buy unless you load the board hard enough to want the stiffer Pro, or want the 1.8 kg Ultra. Pick length from North's rider-weight chart below.

Three builds, one shape

North scores its twintips on five dials. Same outline, same rocker, same channels; the layup is what changes:

Dial (out of 5) Atmos Atmos Pro Atmos Ultra
Comfort in chop 4 3 4
Pop 4 5 5
Edge grip 4 5 5
Light wind 3 3 4
Carving 4 4 4
Construction Triaxial Hybrid Carbon, fibreglass laminate, paulownia core 12K and 300 gsm Triaxial Pro Carbon, paulownia core Triple carbon layup, AirLite foam core, paulownia Y-beam
In the box Board, accessory kit, 40 mm fins Same Same, plus a TwinTip Day Bag
As of this post $712 (from $949) $1,012 (from $1,349) $1,799

North's own copy says the Hybrid Carbon flex is easier on the knees than the Pro. Riders say the same thing in two voices: owners of the Hybrid call it the comfortable board for an hour in chop, and testers of the Pro call it very stiff and locked in, not playful. Both are right; they are describing different layups. The Pro's 5/5 pop and grip are for a rider who edges hard and sends every gust. The Ultra gets the Pro's pop and grip at a published 1.8 kg for the 138, and North adds a line it does not put on the others: not recommended for the hardest landings.

Which size: North's rider-weight chart

All three builds use the same four sizes and the same chart. Every size ships with 40 mm fins.

Size (cm) Rider weight Fins
136 x 40 55–80 kg (121–176 lb) 40 mm
138 x 41 65–90 kg (143–198 lb) 40 mm
141 x 42 75–100 kg (165–220 lb) 40 mm
144 x 43 85–120 kg (187–265 lb) 40 mm

The bands overlap by 15 kg on purpose. An 80 kg (176 lb) rider fits the 136, 138 and 141. The rule riders use on the forums matches North's chart: 136–138 is the all-round band for 80–85 kg, 141 is for the same rider who wants light-wind range, and anything over 42 cm wide gets hard to hold on edge in strong wind. If you jump, go shorter in your band; if you ride underpowered or are new, go longer. The kite size page links the board chart to the kite chart so the two agree.

What is and is not published

People search for the Atmos's weight. North publishes one figure in our data: the Atmos Ultra 138x41 at approximately 1.8 kg, and the Ultra line as sub-2 kg. It does not publish weights for the Hybrid Carbon Atmos or the Pro, and we will not guess. Bindings are not included on any North twintip; the Flex bindings are $169 and use the same M6 hardware as the fins.

Honest limit: the Atmos is not the comfort board. That is the Prime, which North rates 5/5 for comfort in chop against the Atmos's 4, at $699. It is also not a light-wind board: 3/5 on that dial, and experienced riders say that below about 14 knots no twintip is much fun, size notwithstanding. North boards also chip: the recurring owner complaint across the line is cosmetic, a thick paint that marks easily, not structural. And the buying advice that comes up most in big-air threads is to take last year's Atmos at a discount over this year's graphic, because the year-to-year changes are small. As of this post that advice points at the 2026 boards in this post, which are 25% off, with the 136 and 138 Atmos in stock and all four Pro sizes.

Which one

  • Most riders: Atmos, $712. The 4/4/4 board with the forgiving flex.
  • You load hard, ride overpowered and want every bit back: Atmos Pro, $1,012.
  • Lightest board you can buy, and you land clean: Atmos Ultra, $1,799, day bag included.
  • Under 70 kg (154 lb): look at the Astra, the same dials in a narrower-stance board from 127 cm.

FAQ

Atmos or Atmos Pro?

Atmos for most riders: the same shape with a flex North calls easier on the knees, at $712. The Pro's extra point of pop and grip is for riders who edge and send hard, at $1,012.

What size Atmos for 80 kg?

North's chart puts 80 kg (176 lb) in the 136, 138 and 141. Take the 138 as the all-rounder, the 136 if you jump, the 141 if your spot is often light.

How much does the Atmos weigh?

North publishes the Ultra 138 at about 1.8 kg and the Ultra line as under 2 kg. It does not publish weights for the Hybrid Carbon Atmos or the Pro.
