What size kite do I need?
Kite size is a wind question before it is a skill question. North publishes a wind range for every size of every kite; the tables below are those numbers, copied straight out of the product data, every published size included.
If you have just finished lessons and only want one kite, read the middle of the band, not the edges.
Starting point from the brand chart — confirm your size with the advisor.
Kite size against wind range
North wind-range tables per size are the authority (specs in the catalog). Tables assume a ~75–80 kg rider: heavier riders shift roughly one size up (or +~2–3 kn), lighter riders one size down. A typical two-kite quiver covers a spot with sizes ~3m apart.

How to read the wind-range table
Read across from the size you are thinking about to the wind band. If your usual conditions sit in the middle of that band, that is your size.
North wind-range tables per size are the authority (specs in the catalog). Tables assume a ~75–80 kg rider: heavier riders shift roughly one size up (or +~2–3 kn), lighter riders one size down. A typical two-kite quiver covers a spot with sizes ~3m apart.
The published range is the whole usable range for a competent rider, not the range where the kite is comfortable. Coming out of lessons, aim for the middle two-thirds.
North kites ship as Kite + Kite Bag + Repair Kit (+ Sand Bag on Carve/Orbit/Reach) - no control system and no pump in the box; the HyperFlow bayonet valve is "compatible with most pumps. No adapter needed". Curated complete-setup pairing pairs every kite with a Navigator (or Navigator Pro) control system and the Kite Wing Pump
Twintip board size by rider weight
Use the RIDER (kg) column of the board spec table; lighter/advanced riders can go shorter, heavier/newer riders longer.

Questions we actually get asked
What size kite should I buy first?
North wind-range tables per size are the authority (specs in the catalog). Tables assume a ~75–80 kg rider: heavier riders shift roughly one size up (or +~2–3 kn), lighter riders one size down. A typical two-kite quiver covers a spot with sizes ~3m apart.
Pick the size that puts your normal wind in the middle of the published band rather than at its edge, then tell the advisor your weight and spot before you order.
Does a heavier rider need a bigger kite?
Tables assume a ~75–80 kg rider: heavier riders shift roughly one size up (or +~2–3 kn), lighter riders one size down.
Weight is why two riders at the same spot on the same day are on different sizes.
How many kites do I actually need?
A typical two-kite quiver covers a spot with sizes ~3m apart.
Start with the one size that matches your most common wind, then add the second.
What comes in the box with a North kite?
North kites ship as Kite + Kite Bag + Repair Kit (+ Sand Bag on Carve/Orbit/Reach) - no control system and no pump in the box; the HyperFlow bayonet valve is "compatible with most pumps. No adapter needed". Curated complete-setup pairing pairs every kite with a Navigator (or Navigator Pro) control system and the Kite Wing Pump
Which bar size fits which kite?
Navigator control system compatibility: all Navigators have a Low-V split "compatible with any Low-V bridled kite" with kook-proof equal-length connectors "to match most other manufacturers' kite configurations"; High-V kites require the High-V Split Kit. Bar size to kite size: S 38-43cm <8m, M 45-50cm <11m, M Short-Throw <12m, L 50-55cm >8m. Short Throw models recommended with 12m and smaller kites
What size twintip should I ride?
Use the RIDER (kg) column of the board spec table; lighter/advanced riders can go shorter, heavier/newer riders longer.
Can I return a kite if I sized wrong?
30 days, two simple lanes. Changed your mind: if it’s unused and in original packaging, send it back within 30 days for a refund, store credit, or exchange — your pick. No restocking fees. Need a label? We can create the return shipping label for you — its cost is simply deducted from your refund once the items arrive and pass inspection. Our fault (wrong, defective, or damaged item): we cover all shipping both ways and fix it fast. One honest note: a kite, wing or parawing that has been unrolled and inflated counts as used — we resell every return as new, so please size and study before rigging.
