Short answer: a complete new kitesurfing setup from North and Mystic costs about $3,000 if you buy last year's kite on clearance, about $4,200 at current-year prices, and about $5,200 if you want the lightest board and the stiffest harness. That is everything you need to ride: kite, bar and lines, pump, board, bindings, harness, spreader bar and leash. The kite is roughly 40% of the bill. What you actually have to buy
A North kite ships as kite, bag and repair kit. No bar, no pump. A North twintip ships with fins and the hardware kit but no bindings. A Mystic hardshell harness ships without a spreader bar. So the shopping list has eight lines, not three, and the three "hidden" ones (bar, bindings, spreader bar) add about $900 to $1,000 at any tier.

The clearance column is real stock, not a theory: the Reach 2025 is 35% off while sizes last (7m, 9m and 10m as of this post), and the Orbit 2026 in the third column is itself 20% off, which is why a big-air kite costs less there than the current Reach. The Navigator 2022 is the same bar family at $479; the Pro adds thinner SK99 lines and the toolless loop system. Bar size follows kite size: M (45–50 cm) for a 9m.
Where the money goes, and where it does not
- The kite is 37–45% of the total. Buying last year's model is the single biggest saving available, and the forums agree the year-to-year changes are small.
- The board is the next biggest line, $619 to $1,799. A North twintip costs $699 (Prime) to $712 (Atmos, on sale from $949) at the freeride end, $1,012 for the carbon Atmos Pro, $1,799 for the sub-2 kg Atmos Ultra. Add $169 for bindings every time.
- The harness runs $264 to $636. The Star is a softshell waist harness; the Majestic and Stealth are hardshells. All three need the $168 spreader bar.
- Optional, by water temperature: a Star 4/3 wetsuit is $288 and the Majestic 4/3 is $528; a Star impact vest is $168. Florida in summer needs neither.
What takes it down
Our bundle discount is automatic: put a board, a kite and a harness in one cart and 10% comes off all three, with the bar riding along at the same 10%. Honest limit: these are gear prices only. We do not sell lessons and this post does not price them; nobody should buy a kite before taking some.
