What a complete wing foil setup costs: wing, board, foil and the small parts, priced from our shelf

North Nova Wing 2026

Short answer: a complete wing foil setup from our shelf is about $3,550 to $4,700 as of this post. The four parts are a wing ($1,199 to $1,469 for a North Nova 2026), a board ($1,159 to $1,379 for an inflatable Seek Air), a complete foil (from $779 for the Sonar Prime Edition while the sale lasts) and the small parts nobody budgets for: a pump, a wing leash and a board leash, about $200 together. Nothing on that list is optional. The table prices two versions.

Two complete setups, itemised

Built for a rider around 80 kg (176 lb) learning in 12 to 20 knots. Lighter riders drop a wing size and a board size; heavier riders go up.

Orders over $100 ship free in the US, so shipping adds nothing. If the cart holds a board, a wing and a harness, wetsuit, impact vest or board bag of $99 or more, the store's Build Your Own Bundle discount takes 10% off automatically, and a complete foil inside that cart takes the same 10%. Add a $179.99 Stage wing harness to the budget column and the bundle discount roughly pays for it.

Why those parts

Wing. Our sizing guide for a rider around 80 kg: 6–7m for 10–16 knots, 5m for 15–22, 4m for 20–28. A 5.4m sits in the middle of a 12-to-20-knot spot, which is where a single wing should sit. The Nova is North's freeride wing and the one reviewers across the range describe as the beginner-through-intermediate choice; it comes with a GripLock carbon boom already fitted, where the Nova Pro ($1,199 to $1,549) and Mode Pro sell their handles or boom separately. The Nova's page does not list a leash in the box, so the table buys one.

Board. The rule our advisor uses: a floater is body weight in kilograms plus 30 to 40 litres, and a beginner kit should not go below body weight plus 20. For 80 kg that is 100 to 120 L. North's Seek Air chart agrees: the 5'1" (110 L) is rated for novices under 80 kg, the 5'5" (124 L) under 90, the 5'9" (132 L) under 100. The Seek Air is inflatable, which is why it is in the budget column: it is kind to shins, it ships with its own board pump, bag and repair kit, and it packs into a car. The Midi 6'4" (96 L) is the rigid alternative North rates for novice wingers, and it is on sale.

Foil. North's beginner guidance: front wing as big as possible (1850 or 2100 class by weight), a short mast of 55 to 72 cm to keep falls shallow, the longest fuselage, a big stabiliser. The Prime Edition is exactly that kit in one box, a Prime MA front wing, Freeride stabiliser, A700 fuselage and AF80 aluminium mast, and at $779 it is $420 under its list price. The Foil Edition is the step up: it includes the AF72 or AF85 mast, adaptor, fuselage, S270 carbon stabiliser, tools and a travel bag, but no front wing, so you add one. Every Sonar part fits every other, so either kit grows with you; the foil compatibility page has the rules.

Honest limit: these are our prices on the day of writing, and two of the three biggest numbers are sale prices that end when the stock does: the Prime Edition is down to the 1850 and 2100 sizes, and the Seek Air 5'5" is sold out, so the budget column may be the 5'9" at $50 more. We also left out two things that are not gear: a wetsuit, which depends on your water (the wetsuit page sizes it), and an impact vest, which many wingers wear and which starts at $167.99 for the Star. And no price list teaches you to foil. Book a lesson before you buy the foil; the board and wing you can buy first. Our gear advisor will build this list for your own weight and wind.

FAQ

Is wing foiling cheaper than kitesurfing?

Not by much at entry. Our kite setup guide priced a complete kite, bar, board and harness at roughly the same level as the budget wing column here. The difference is what you do not need: no bar, no lines, and the wing and foil pack smaller than a kite and a twintip.

Can I buy the wing and board first and the foil later?

Yes, and the Seek Air 5'9" and 6'2" are built for it: they come with removable side fins so you can learn wing handling without the foil, or use the board as a paddleboard.

What size front wing for a beginner?

The biggest sensible one. North's guide is the 1850 to 2200 class for most adults, larger lifting earlier. The Prime Edition comes in PE 1850 and PE 2100 as of this post; on the Foil Edition, add the MA1850v2 Prime ($569) or MA2100v2 Prime ($579).
