Short answer: the North Loft Pro is North's light-wind wing, for roughly 6 to 16 knots. It comes in three sizes, picked by your weight rather than the wind: about 6m under 70 kg, 7m for 60–80 kg, and 8m over 80 kg. North rates it 5/5 for low-end grunt and 2/5 for top-end speed. It is a second wing for the days your normal wing will not get you up.
Which size for your weight
| Loft Pro size | Rider weight | In pounds | Price, as of this post |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6m | under 70 kg | under 154 lb | $1,769 |
| 7m | 60–80 kg | 132–176 lb | $1,829 |
| 8m | over 80 kg | over 176 lb | $1,899 |
The bands overlap on purpose. Between 60 and 70 kg, pick the 6m if you want an easier wing to handle and the 7m if your light days are very light. One shop tester at about 200 lb (91 kg) preferred the 8m over the 7m for light-wind duty, which matches the chart. The Loft Pro is a big wing, so it does not suit very small riders.
North's ratings across its wing line
| Dial (out of 5) | Loft Pro | Nova | Nova Pro | Mode Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low-end grunt | 5 | 4 | 4 | 3 |
| Top-end speed | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Pumping response | 4 | 4 | 4 | 5 |
| Handling | 3 | 4 | 5 | 4 |
| Stability | 4 | 5 | 4 | 3 |
It is the only North wing with a 5 for low-end grunt, and the only one with a 2 anywhere. That tells you what it is for. The Loft Pro trades top-end speed for power per square metre, and the rest of the line covers the windier days.
How it gets that power
- A deep canopy profile, so each gust turns into forward drive.
- An ultra-stiff N-Weave45 airframe, so that power goes to your hands instead of bending the frame.
- A lightweight N-HTRS canopy and lightweight bladders.
- North's ShiftLock track, so handles or a boom slide and lock anywhere along the strut.
Testers back it up. Across the 37 independent sources we track for North wings, reviewers call the Loft Pro a session-saver for light wind and heavier riders. In about 10 knots, testers got foiling with one or two pumps. They also say it does not demand refined pumping technique, so average riders get the benefit, not just experts. The big overhaul came in 2025: the ShiftLock track, a thinner leading edge with carbon reinforcement, and a trimmed span. The 2026 carries that platform forward with lighter tips.
Honest limit
A 2/5 for top-end speed is real. Once the wind builds past the middle of its range, you will want a smaller wing. Reviewers say to skip it if your spot usually blows past mid-range, or if you are a very heavy rider who tends to backwind big wings. Testers also note it has no window, which saves weight but means you cannot see through the canopy. And handles are not in the box. On North's Pro wings the handles or boom are sold separately. North's recommended set is a front 500 with a rear 400 handle on the 6m, a front 500 with a rear 500 on the 7m and 8m, or the 1100 boom on any of them. The ShiftLock Carbon Handle is $109 for the 500 and $96 for the 400, and the 1100 boom is $149. Budget $149–$218 on top of the wing.
Which one to buy
As of this post, the Loft Pro 2026 is $1,769–$1,899 with all three sizes in stock. The Loft Pro 2025 is 35% off at $1,143.35, but only the 8m is left. It is the same platform, since 2025 was the redesign year. If you are over 80 kg, that 8m is the value buy. For your everyday wing, see the Nova review. For wing sizes by wind, see the wing foil size chart and the wing sizing page. Or ask the gear advisor to size a two-wing quiver from your weight and your spot. FAQ
What size North Loft Pro should I get?
Size it by weight: about 6m under 70 kg (154 lb), 7m for 60–80 kg (132–176 lb), 8m over 80 kg (176 lb). In the overlap, go bigger if your light days are very light.
What wind is the Loft Pro for?
Roughly 6 to 16 knots. Testers report foiling in about 10 knots with one or two pumps. Above the middle of that range, a smaller wing is faster and easier.
Does the Loft Pro come with handles?
No. Like the other North Pro wings, it uses the ShiftLock track, and the handles or boom are sold separately. North recommends front 500 and rear 400 handles on the 6m, 500 and 500 on the 7m and 8m, or the 1100 boom.
